PROJECT OVERVIEW
This documentary chronicles the grueling, historic tradition of pearl diving in the United Arab Emirates, highlighting the profound hardships and resilience of early generations who relied on the sea for survival. The film details the structured, perilous life aboard the traditional boats, where captains led crews through months-long voyages marked by exhausting daily routines of free-diving for oysters without modern equipment. To endure the physical pain, exhaustion, and emotional toll of being separated from their families, the sailors relied on traditional "nahma" sea songs to maintain rhythm while rowing and express their deep longing for home. Ultimately, the narrative serves as a poignant tribute to these ancestors, whose sacrifices, bravery, and unity forged the historical and cultural legacy of the nation.
