PROJECT OVERVIEW
The documentary explores the resilient heritage of the Al Shehi tribe, known as the "Guardians of the Mountains," who have inhabited their rugged mountainous environment for thousands of years. Historically facing a harsh climate with scarce water, the tribe sustained themselves by herding livestock, cultivating wheat, and grinding grain using traditional hand-turned millstones. Women played a central role in this society by managing the household and livestock, as well as skillfully weaving palm fronds into essential everyday items, tools, and summer shelters. The tribe's ancestors also constructed enduring stone homes, such as the Bayt al Qafl, and agricultural terraces that have stood for centuries alongside their ancient mountain graves. A proud hallmark of their distinct culture is the "Nadbah," a powerful, traditional vocal chant originally used to strike fear into enemies during wartime that has since evolved into a celebratory performance shared at weddings, festivals, and to honor visiting guests.
